Wednesday's Trek

Today we trekked to the Student Recreational Center and the Finch Center.  Two different coaches spent time talking to the students about the importance of education, determination, and effort.  We also got to meet some Tiger basketball players!

Next stop the Finch Center. This is the current men's basketball practice facility.  The university broke ground on their new practice facility on South Campus last week!

Coach Julian led a discussion about strong vocabulary words that lead to success!

You have to know a code and have a working fingerprint to get into the Finch Center.

Players chart their shots made on a calendar.  These were shots made AFTER regular practice.  One player made 400 shots in one day!

Tuesday's Trek

Today we visited a microscopy lab.  Students learned how microscope slides are prepared and then we were able to look at cells of a mouse brain, rat lungs, and a human brain.  We may have a few cellular biologists in the making!

A mouse's brain is very small.

All sorts of animal organs; brains, hearts, lungs, kidneys, a jaw and even a chicken's eyeball!

Once the animal tissue has been molded in wax, Ms. Lauren uses this machine
to slice very thin samples to mount onto microscope slides.

The thin pieces are then dunked in a solution so you can see the wax better.

Once we learned how microscope slides were prepared, we went over and looked at a few
 slides through a real microscope.  Students were able to see cells with a microscopic eye!

Monday

Today we trekked to the Student University Center and the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.

The director gave us a warm welcome  He was so gracious and excited to see us.
As we left he said;  "That's the best meeting I've had all day!"

Backstage

We sat in on choir practice. 

It was interesting to hear them warm up not only their vocal chords but their lips too! 

We got to sit in on the Symphonic Band practice.  

They played a piece that honored the Peabody Ducks Parade.

Then to the recording studios!  Where they lay down the tracks.
We got to see/hear the recording of a music artist that recorded a song where he played ALL the instruments.  

Sachin made a few astonishing observations about the workings of the sound board!

A student then ended this part of the tour with "where do the CD's come out?"
