Today we visited a microscopy lab. Students learned how microscope slides are prepared and then we were able to look at cells of a mouse brain, rat lungs, and a human brain. We may have a few cellular biologists in the making!

A mouse's brain is very small. |
|
All sorts of animal organs; brains, hearts, lungs, kidneys, a jaw and even a chicken's eyeball! |
|
Once the animal tissue has been molded in wax, Ms. Lauren uses this machine
to slice very thin samples to mount onto microscope slides. |
|
The thin pieces are then dunked in a solution so you can see the wax better. |

Once we learned how microscope slides were prepared, we went over and looked at a few
slides through a real microscope. Students were able to see cells with a microscopic eye! |

Thanks Dr. Omar and Ms. Lauren! Your work is fascinating.
