Our Last Trek

Today's trek led us to the Theatre Department and TigUr Garden.

On with the show!  At the theater students were able to meet a few young actors, see a stage set, go backstage, visit the costume shop and see carpenters building a new set in a workshop!
Hello Theatre Department
Ms. Alice (a former Campus School parent) gave us the grand tour and introduced us to some theater folk.
Theater
Ms. Alice talked to us about sets and stage presence.
Workshop where lots of set hands are busy building!

Working costume shop where costume designers were cutting, patterning, sewing and answering all our questions!
Costume Shop
Ben works the curtains backstage.  Backstage there is an enormous pulley system that suspends so many things.  Here I was able to connect science lessons about pulleys, kinetic energy and weight!
Actors spend some time talking to kids about the life of an actor.

Sachin participates in a little improv act about how costume designers and actors work together.

A garden we will go.... and get free stuff!

Who would've known we would get beachballs, bubbles, sunglasses, beads and a frisbee!  Thanks garden friends.

Sunflowers!
Where the sunflower seeds come from.
Underneath the loofa vine!
Anna Rose holds a...daisy.   Should've been a rose!
Minha picked a pepper!
Kids LOVE to taste the mint leaves!
Asparagus!
AND they even invited us to their birthday party!  Campus School students are well loved around the university.  Thanks so much for sharing your birthday celebration with us.  We had so much fun!

Thanks Ms. Alice and Garden Crew for hosting us today.  We had a BLAST!

Thank YOU parents for sharing your kids with me this week.  They represented Campus School very well and each day was a fun adventure.

Thursday's Trek

Thursday's Trek

Today we trekked to the Fe-Ex Institute of Technology, FIT and a greenhouse on the roof of the life science building.  We explored innovative technology and learned about the botany research being done on wild carrots!
This is a drone or an UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle).

As the drone hovered in front of us the students compared the sound of the propellars to a bee and hummingbird.

Kids learn so much through touch.  Thanks Mr. Peter for letting us touch and nice job touching responsibly kidos!

Mr. Peter showing us the remote control.

Some kids kept their eyes on the controls while others watched it fly!

We're in "The Zone"  A special meeting room full of technological innovation.  The kids got to choose a chair and they took turns speaking in their own mics.  Once their mic was turned on their image showed up on the big screen in the front of the room (which you can't see in this picture).  The screens here are part of the control area.

Mr. Cedric working the controls.

Here's the big screen!

Elevator ride to the rooftop!

Mr. Adam telling us about the greenhouse and carrot plant.  He and his professor are sequences the DNA of wild carrots!

Nature enthusiasts exploring the plant a little more closely.

An attentive group of students listen as Mr. Adam shares his research.

Wednesday's Trek

Today we trekked to the Student Recreational Center and the Finch Center.  Two different coaches spent time talking to the students about the importance of education, determination, and effort.  We also got to meet some Tiger basketball players!

Olympic size pools!

A workout in the gym was the perfect opportunity for some to show off their basketball skills.

Bob's ball skills

Arabella passes to a friend.

Next stop the Finch Center. This is the current men's basketball practice facility.  The university broke ground on their new practice facility on South Campus last week!

Tiger Trekkers

Coach Julian led a discussion about strong vocabulary words that lead to success!

You have to know a code and have a working fingerprint to get into the Finch Center.

Kendrick is a basketball player and music student!

Photo shoot in front of the backdrop.... between 2 trash cans.  :)

The variety of expressions here is priceless.

Cool training and practice room.

A humongous inclined plane to build leg muscles.

Caleb and Dante offered two perspectives on being a Tiger.

Dante gives Claude an autograph.

Caleb and Daphne are all smiles!

Go Tigers Go!

Players chart their shots made on a calendar.  These were shots made AFTER regular practice.  One player made 400 shots in one day!

The players' lounge.

Awesome over-sized recliners in the TV room.

Film room where players study game and practice videos.

Another trek down!  2 more to go.  :)

Thanks Coach P and Coach Julian for an awesome day!
